About the role

This role will complement our existing team of Developers who fulfil the delivery requirements for all our client projects.  The core of the role will be to ensure that the front-end of the digital product does everything the user needs while the back-end is easy to navigate at the same time as being delivered on time and to budget.

You will have discrete responsibility for delivering assigned project tasks and blocks, as well as the opportunity to work closely with other members of our team to ensure we deliver the best products using our combined skills. Roles are flexible/hybrid UK based, but you must be able to regularly commute to our Wokingham office.

How you’ll help our business:

  • Write well structured, object oriented code in languages such as PHP, SASS / CSS, HTML, JavaScript, XML, SQL.
  • Decide on the best technologies and languages for the project
  • Produce front-end work accurately to artwork
  • Test features thoroughly in different browsers and environments
  • Integrate with external APIs
  • Create and maintain MySQL databases
  • Solve complex technical problems with pragmatic solutions
  • Carry out code refactoring and optimisation of existing code
  • Document code, so other developers can understand and contribute to it
  • Produce user documentation and provide client training with support from colleagues 
  • Deliver assigned project tasks
  • Participate in project scheduling and review meetings
  • Review colleagues’ code and proactively provide constructive feedback to maintain our quality assurance process
  • Proactively mentor and receive mentoring from other developers as appropriate to the role level
  • Learn and test new technologies, frameworks and languages
  • Share your knowledge of new trends and advancements in web development

About you

You display the personal characteristics represented in our company values of being skilful, transparent, empathetic, ethical and reliable.  You are self-sufficient and a problem-solver, who is happy to work independently, but want to feel part of a team.

You have experience of delivering WordPress and Laravel themes, plugins and complex API integrations underpinned by a degree in computer science or related subject or equivalent combination of education and experience.  You have proven experience working in an agency environment or as a freelancer and are proficient with a modern development workflow including experience with version control systems. You have an ability to manage a complex range of tasks, colleague expectations and meet deadlines. You have worked with Jira, Confluence and Tempo or other project management software. You have a desire to remain technically capable and have knowledge of current technologies.

You may have just 2 years development experience, or much more – actual responsibilities of the role will be determined by individual skillsets and experience.

What you bring to the role

  • A degree in a computer science related subject or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience working in an agency environment or as a freelancer.
  • Proficiency with a modern development workflow including experience with version control systems and build tools
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships with clients and team members
  • Ability to work by yourself and in a small team; be enthusiastic, think logically, be proactive at problem-solving and self-motivated
